This page discusses different windowm managers as addition or alternativ to GNOME
Fluxbox
- Short install: sudo conary update fluxbox
- Configuration file format: plain
Status
It works but many help programs dont compile on Foresight. I guess thats because its primarily used on old boxes. So besides the fluxbox core there is yet not much help. Not sure if this will change in the future or if they are more targeted at Debian, Gentoo and Arch Linux.
Openbox
- Short install: sudo conary update group-openbox
- Configuration file format: XML
Status
There is a small group you can install and also it seems that additional programs build ok on Foresight. It can also be integrated nicely into GNOME and KDE. On GNOME you can use it as an alternative to the default Metacity window manager.
Others
- stumpwm, pekwm, lwm, aewm, aewm++
