This page is about how you can share your data with Foresight Systems. We here assume two Foresight Desktops.

How should users share data?

For Admin Users (mostly one user systems)

First create a new folder:

Then right click on the folder and give it a name that makes sense to you like "Share":

Then right click the folder and select "Share folder" from the drop down menu.

Work needed

Right now a random user does not get a shared folder because of access restrictions.

GShare

GShare is another option. The project is described here: http://gnomefiles.org/app.php/GShare (the official page seems to be offline?). Shared files are published on the network and display automaticaly in Nautilus Network Servers browser. An internal FTP server is used to share the files with other users. To install it run: sudo conary update gshare. Then you can open a the gshare-manager via System->Peferences->File Sharing and configure:

You then should get a folder "Shared Files" in you home directory which is shared and announced in your local network.
To share your files, copy the files or folders you want to share to the 'Shared Files' folder in your home directory. Alternatively, to keep a single copy of the files on your system, you may choose to create a link to the files or folders you want to share instead of copying them.

To browse the files other persons are sharing, go to the: Places menu and choose Network Servers.
A window similar to the one below should appear on the screen:

If you double click on the 'Shared Files' icon, you will be requested a username and password to access the other person's files. If the other person allows anonymous browsing, you'll just have to click on the 'Connect' button. For more help open the help from the gshare-manager.

its good
